Events — Privacy Policy

Events is a small app for sharing events person-to-person. This policy explains what information the app handles, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we keep only what the app needs to work, we never sell data, and we never send marketing messages.

What we collect

• Your phone number. This is your account. Sign-in is by SMS one-time code; there are no passwords or email addresses.
• Your display name. The name you choose the first time you share an event. It is shown only to people you share with, so their texts and notifications say who added them. You can edit it anytime (My People → Your name).
• Your people. When you import contacts or add someone manually, the names and phone numbers you choose are stored so you can share events with them. This includes phone numbers of people who may never sign up. We store only the contacts you select — never your whole address book — and contacts access on your device is only requested when you tap to add people.
• Your events. The events you create (title, date, time, location, description, link) and the record of who you shared them with.
• Your push token. If you allow notifications on a device, we store a push token so shared events can reach you.

How we use it

• Deliver events to the specific people you share them with — no feeds, no public posts.
• Send notifications about shares: push if the recipient has the app, SMS if they don't. That is the only thing SMS is used for.
• Match people in your list to accounts if they sign up later, so events shared with them appear on their calendar.

Text messaging (SMS) program

• What we send. Two kinds of transactional texts, and nothing else: sign-in verification codes when you enter your own number to log in, and one-time event notifications when someone shares an event to your number. No marketing or promotional messages, ever.
• Consent. Sign-in codes are requested by the recipient entering their own phone number in the app. Event notifications are initiated person-to-person by the sharer, and every such text includes opt-out instructions.
• Message frequency varies. Texts are occasional and event-driven: you receive one only when you request a sign-in code or when someone shares an event with you.
• Message and data rates may apply. Depending on your mobile plan, your carrier may charge for texts you receive.
• Opt out anytime. Reply STOP to any text to stop messages. Reply HELP for help, or use the contact below.
• No sharing of mobile numbers. Mobile numbers are never sold, rented, or shared with third parties for their marketing or promotional purposes. Numbers are used only to deliver the messages described here, via our SMS provider, Twilio.

Who processes it

• Supabase — database and authentication hosting.
• Twilio — delivers SMS (sign-in codes and event notifications). Recipients of notification texts can reply STOP to opt out.
• Expo — delivers push notifications.
• Cloudflare — hosts the web build and this page.

We do not sell, rent, or share your information with advertisers. There are no analytics or tracking SDKs in the app.

Retention and deletion

• People you haven't shared an event with in six months are automatically removed from your list.
• Removing an event from your calendar deletes your copy; copies already shared with others are unaffected. Event data with no remaining owners is periodically reclaimed.
• Sign-in is stateless; signing out removes the session from your device.
• You can delete your account at any time in the app: My People → Delete account. This deletes your calendar, your people, and your sign-in immediately. Events you already shared stay on the calendars of the people you sent them to.

Your choices

• You can remove people, remove events, hide people whose events you don't want to see, sign out, and delete your account, at any time in the app.
• You can use the app without granting contacts access by adding people manually with a phone number.

Children

Events is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new date.
